LPC at the Races: July in Review

July was another successful month for Team LPC. The Loaring Triathlon saw several LPC athletes compete in the Double Triathlon. It was an excellent speed workout for all, which also served to work on transitions and race sharpening for upcoming races. Other LPC athletes graciously donated their time in being champion volunteers over the entire race weekend. While there were many incredible stories, one that stood out was the inspiring efforts of Breanne Loaring and Janet Sharratt. Breanne is expecting a baby girl (Coach James will be a very proud daddy in three months!), and Janet completed her first ever triathlon.

LPC was well represented by Jane MacLeod and Tim Zippel at IMUSA. All competitors had to endure torrential down pour, combined with cold temps. Jane will be a name to look out for at November's 70.3 World Championship. Tim successfully completed his first Ironman, smashing his pre-race expectations. Tim, you are an Ironman!

Margaret Wojtowicz had a great race at the Peterborough Half-Ironman. Margaret will be competing at the Muskoka 70.3, along with several other LPC athletes.

Jim Cooke continues to lead his age-group in the series point standings of the HSBC Triathlon Series. A win at Gravenhurst certainly helped strengthen his position at the top of standings.

The Running from Cancer half-marathon saw PB's from John Savoni, and Kathy Henry. Dawn Van Vlack flew during the 10k, winning her age-group, and finishing 2nd overall.

LPC Head Coach James Loaring placed 2nd Canadian and 7th overall, at the ITU Geneva Pan American Cup Triathlon. Coach James then went on to win the Bluewater Triathlon at the end of the month, finishing over 3 minutes ahead of the closest male, and making up the 16 minute deficit on the ladies, in the "Battle of the Sexes" Chase Race.

This past weekend saw Margaret Wojtowicz podium in her age-group at the Ontario Provincial Olympic Champs in Owen Sound. As a result, Margaret qualifies for the 2009 ITU World Olympic Triathlon Champs in Brisbane, Australia. Shauna Carter also had a big day and completed her first Olympic distance triathlon.

Steelhead 70.3 was changed to a duathlon due to choppy waters and high winds, but that didn't stop Dennis Masse, and first-halfers Helen "Rocket Robbo" Robertson, and Keith "Parker" Henry, from having excellent races.

Team LPC now enters the heat of the racing season. A solid LPC contingent will be present at the Windsor Triathlon Weekend on Aug 9-10. Shelley McKee, Ralph Iannitelli, and Rob Wojtowicz will soon begin their taper, as Ironman Louisville is on the horizon. While the eyes of the athletic world will be very focused on the events occurring in Beijing, Kelowna, B.C. will steal some limelight as it will feature the Canadian Junior, Age-Group, and Elite Triathlon Championships on the Aug 16-17 weekend.

Below lists the competitions that Team LPC members will be participating in for the month of August.

IT COULDN'T BE DONE
Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't", but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
